Comparison ยท Cold email sending and lead database

FoxKnock vs Instantly: Researched Outreach or Cold Email at Volume

FoxKnock vs Instantly comes down to volume or research: Instantly is built to send cold email at scale, while FoxKnock researches each company and, by default, sends from your own mailboxes only after you approve the email.

Instantly offers unlimited connected mailboxes, a warm-up network, a lead database it describes as 450M+ contacts, and AI agents for prospecting and replies. FoxKnock is smaller and slower on purpose: its AI-written emails must tie each specific claim about a prospect to a source.

We make FoxKnock, so we are not neutral. Every Instantly fact below comes from its own pricing page or help center, checked on October 17, 2026, and we say plainly where Instantly is stronger. If you are weighing an Instantly alternative, the short answer below says which tool suits which team.

Facts checked from public sources listed at the end. Tools change often, so check before you decide. Written by the FoxKnock team, so read it knowing who wrote it.

The short answer

Choose Instantly if you need volume: many mailboxes, a built-in lead database, a warm-up network and plans priced around sending volume. Choose FoxKnock if you contact a smaller set of accounts and want each email built on research you can click through, approved by a person by default and paid for from one credit balance that rolls over. They solve different problems, and some teams will use both.

Choose FoxKnock if

  • You write to a smaller set of accounts, and each AI-written email should rest on research, with a source link behind every specific claim about the prospect.
  • You want a person to approve AI-written emails by default, with automatic sending earned by a track record instead of switched on.
  • You would rather pay from one credit balance that rolls over every month than size a sending plan and a separate credits plan.
  • You send into EU and UK markets and want country rules, lawful-basis checks and an Article 14 notice link enforced before a first email goes out (compliance stays your responsibility).

Choose Instantly if

  • You send thousands of emails a month. Instantly includes unlimited email accounts on every plan, while FoxKnock caps each mailbox at 25 sends a day by default (50 at most).
  • You want a large lead database to search. Instantly cites 450M+ contacts on its site and 610M+ in its help center. FoxKnock owns no database.
  • You rely on a warm-up network and inbox placement tests. FoxKnock has neither.
  • You want AI to reply to leads and book meetings around the clock, plus open and link tracking. FoxKnock drafts replies for you to send (apart from an opt-in booking-link reply) and has no open or click tracking.
  • Your mailboxes are on Microsoft 365. Instantly connects them with OAuth. FoxKnock has no Microsoft sign-in, and Microsoft no longer accepts passwords for IMAP in Exchange Online, so a Microsoft 365 mailbox may not connect or sync replies.

  • Growth$149/mo, 20,000 credits

Checked 2026-10-17, per Instantly's pricing page and its machine-readable pricing.md. Instantly sells sending and lead data as two separate subscriptions, or as bundles of both.

Outreach (sending), per month

PlanPriceEmails a monthUploaded contacts
Growth$475,0001,000
Hypergrowth$97125,00025,000
Light Speed$358500,000100,000
EnterpriseCustomCustomCustom

Annual billing shows about 20% less ($37.60, $77.60 and $286.30 a month). Hypergrowth is 125,000 emails on its plan card and in pricing.md, while its feature table says 100,000. Past the included volume you move up a tier: there is no overage charge. Every plan includes unlimited email accounts and warm-up, and a 14-day free trial needs no card.

Instantly Credits (lead data and AI agents), per month

  • Nano $9 (150 credits), Growth $47 to $77 (1,500 to 2,000), Supersonic $97 to $147 (5,000 to 7,500), Hyper Credits from $197 (10,000 to 200,000). Nano is listed in pricing.md and the help center but not on the pricing page when we looked, so confirm it is still sold.
  • Bundles of both: Starter $94 (5,000 emails, 1,500 credits), Scale $194 (100,000 emails, 5,000 credits) and Agency $555 (500,000 emails, 10,000 credits) a month, with 10% off shown for annual billing.
  • Rates from its help center: a verified work email is 1 credit when Instantly finds it and 2 when a data partner does (nothing if none is found), a full profile is 0.5, the AI Sales Agent costs 5 credits per lead (plus 1 per buying signal you select) and the AI Reply Agent 5 credits per reply generated.
  • Credits expire 2 months after purchase on monthly plans and 1 year after purchase on annual plans.

Instantly pricing vs FoxKnock: what a month costs

This is a hypothetical example, not a result from any customer. A small agency wants to contact 50 new accounts in a month with a three-step email sequence for each. Both tools send from mailboxes the agency already pays for. Instantly prices come from its pricing page and help center. FoxKnock uses default credit prices, which can change, so check pricing.

SetupMonthly costWhat it covers
Instantly, leads from SuperSearch$56 (Outreach Growth $47 plus Nano credits $9)150 emails of 5,000 allowed; about 75 to 125 of 150 credits to find and enrich 50 leads
Instantly, AI Sales Agent writes$94 (its Starter bundle)50 leads at 5 credits each is 250 credits, so the 1,500-credit plan is needed
FoxKnock, templates, no research$49 (Starter)31 credits per account, 1,550 of 5,000 credits
FoxKnock, standard research on each$149 (Growth)276 credits per account, 13,800 of 20,000 credits

How the figures are built:

  • Instantly: 1 to 2 credits for a verified work email and 0.5 for a full profile. Nano credits appear in Instantly's pricing.md and help center but not on its pricing page, so confirm they are still sold.
  • FoxKnock: 31 credits per account is an accepted discovery result (15), one contact found (5) and an email found and verified (11). The researched setup adds standard research (225) and one AI-personalized first email (20), for 276. Follow-ups come from your own templates and cost nothing. Email finds, contact finds and research reports are charged only when they succeed, so misses cost less.

At 50 accounts the lean setups cost about the same ($56 and $49). The researched FoxKnock setup costs more, and about 225 of its 276 credits per account go to the research report.

As volume grows, Instantly pulls ahead, because its plans price sending in thousands of emails while FoxKnock charges credits for each account found and researched. Starter's 5,000 credits cover about 18 accounts at standard research depth. Instantly also sells done-for-you email accounts from $4 a month and domains at $15 a year, and FoxKnock does not sell mailboxes or domains.

Instantly vs FoxKnock: where Instantly is stronger

If sending capacity or lead data is your main need, Instantly is the better pick. The table above has the short version. These are the details that matter.

  • Volume. Instantly's self-serve plans run from 5,000 to 500,000 emails a month on unlimited connected mailboxes. FoxKnock sends 25 emails a day per mailbox by default and 50 at most, so three mailboxes on Starter send up to about 75 a day once ramped. The cap is deliberate, and it is still a limit.
  • Warm-up and placement tests. Instantly's warm-up puts your mailbox in a pool of other Instantly users who exchange warm-up emails. Its Inbox Placement feature tests where mail lands in Gmail and Microsoft and watches 94 blocklists (unlimited tests need a separate subscription). FoxKnock has neither. It ramps a new mailbox from 8 sends a day over 21 days, checks SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX, and pauses a mailbox that crosses bounce or complaint limits. It cannot tell you where an email lands, and it does not promise inbox placement. See our notes on cold email deliverability.
  • A lead database. Instantly's SuperSearch filters by title, industry, location, revenue, tech stack and keywords, and has a lookalike filter. FoxKnock owns no database. Instantly's is likely to return more contacts for a broad title-and-industry search than a tool that researches company by company. We have not benchmarked either.
  • Reply automation. Instantly's AI Reply Agent can reply, send follow-ups and book meetings through Calendly. Its Autopilot mode replies without approval, pausing for review when it lacks information or is unsure, and needs Hypergrowth or above. FoxKnock's inbox sorts replies into 13 classes and drafts answers from your knowledge base, but you send them. The one exception is an opt-in booking-link reply.
  • Tracking and mailbox sign-in. Instantly offers open and link tracking, set per campaign, and connects Google Workspace and Microsoft accounts with OAuth. FoxKnock has no open or click tracking, and it connects mailboxes only with a password over SMTP and IMAP. That works with an app password for Google Workspace or any SMTP and IMAP mail server. Microsoft 365 is limited: Microsoft no longer accepts passwords (Basic authentication) for IMAP in Exchange Online and is retiring it for SMTP AUTH, so a Microsoft 365 mailbox may not connect or may not sync replies. FoxKnock does not offer Microsoft sign-in.
  • Track record. FoxKnock launched in October 2026. Instantly's pricing page says 50,000+ sales teams use it (a vendor claim we have not verified), so it has far more real-world use behind it.

Where FoxKnock works as an Instantly alternative

FoxKnock starts from the account, not the list.

  • Research before the email. For each company FoxKnock builds a report at one of three depths. Every fact is an evidence card with a source URL, a verbatim quote and a timestamp. Cards expire after 90 days for news, funding and hiring and after 365 days for the rest, and expired cards are not used to write emails. Instantly has a Web Researcher agent and AI enrichment, and its AI Sales Agent lets you review research sources behind each email draft. We did not find a per-claim source check described on its public pages, and we have not tested the product. Details are on AI prospect research.
  • A claim check that blocks. The writer must tie each specific claim to an evidence card. A second AI pass flags claims no fact supports, and an unsupported claim, or a check that failed to run, blocks the draft until a person fixes it. It is AI-checked, not infallible, and emails you write yourself from templates are not claim-checked.
  • Approval you set, autonomy you earn. Both tools offer approval for AI-written email: Instantly's AI Sales Agent waits for approval by default, its AI Reply Agent has a Human-in-the-Loop mode, and Autopilot is a setting you turn on. In FoxKnock every sequence starts at review each, and auto within limits unlocks only after 50 individually approved emails with under 10% edited and under 5% rejected. Nothing is approved by a timer. See approval-first outreach.
  • One credit balance. Instantly's Outreach plan and its Credits plan are separate subscriptions (its bundles sell both together), and credits expire 2 months after purchase on monthly plans. FoxKnock has one balance that rolls over every month, and the UI shows the price of paid actions before you click.

If neither tool fits, the full list of Instantly alternatives covers other options.

Switching from Instantly to FoxKnock

Most of the work is setup, then a ramp of up to 21 days on each mailbox.

  1. Export your leads first. Download the leads you want to keep from Instantly as a CSV file, from a campaign's Leads tab or from the CRM. Instantly's help center says to export before your subscription expires, because an expired plan blocks dashboard access.
  2. Import them. FoxKnock imports CSV files of up to 5,000 rows and maps columns such as email, names, title, company and domain automatically. Where a country rule requires a confirmed lawful basis, record it on each contact. If FoxKnock cannot work out a contact's country, it blocks enrollment until you set one or confirm a lawful basis.
  3. Bring your opt-outs. Import your suppression list so nobody who opted out hears from you again. FoxKnock checks suppression when a step is queued and again when it sends.
  4. Connect the mailboxes. Use each mailbox's SMTP and IMAP details and an app password, which works for Google Workspace and other SMTP and IMAP servers. Microsoft 365 is limited, for the reason given above. Instantly connects those mailboxes with OAuth, but FoxKnock only uses a password, so a Microsoft 365 mailbox may not connect or may not sync replies. Test one before you move the rest.
  5. Ramp each mailbox. FoxKnock ramps a new mailbox from 8 sends a day over 21 days. It has no warm-up network, so you lose that layer when you leave Instantly's pool. Do not run one mailbox at full volume in both tools at once.
  6. Rebuild the sequences. Paste your best templates or let FoxKnock draft a sequence. By default, every AI-written email waits in your approval queue.
  7. Time the cancellation. Cancel only after your export and your mailbox move are done. Outreach and Credits are separate Instantly subscriptions unless you bought a bundle, so check what you pay for. Unused credits expire 2 months after purchase on monthly plans, and we have not verified what happens to them when you cancel, so spend them before you go.

Can you use both?

Yes. A sensible split is Instantly for large, simple sends where price per email matters, and FoxKnock for the accounts where a researched, cited, approved email is worth the cost. Keep them on separate mailboxes and domains so the volume of one is less likely to affect the reputation of the other, and add the same opt-outs to both block lists.

FoxKnock has no Instantly integration. CSV is the bridge, and both products have an API if you want to script it. FoxKnock exports contacts to CSV, and its REST API reads and writes companies and contacts (creating API keys is a Growth plan feature). Emails you send from Instantly do not pass through FoxKnock's claim check or approval queue.

Frequently asked questions

Is FoxKnock cheaper than Instantly?

Only at small scale. At volume, Instantly will usually cost less, because its plans are priced for sending. In our hypothetical month for 50 accounts, Instantly cost about $56 to $94 and FoxKnock $49 with templates only or $149 with research on every account. The extra FoxKnock spend buys per-company research and cited drafts. Credit prices can change, so check pricing.

Is FoxKnock a good Instantly alternative?

For some teams, yes. If you contact a smaller set of accounts and want researched, cited, approved emails from one credit balance, FoxKnock covers that job. If you need unlimited mailboxes, warm-up, a large lead database or open tracking, Instantly is the better fit. The Instantly alternatives page lists other options.

Does FoxKnock have a contact database like Instantly?

No. FoxKnock owns no contact database. It finds companies from the web and company-data providers, researches them, then finds decision-makers and work emails through a provider waterfall. Instantly's pricing page cites 450M+ contacts and its help center says 610M+, so a broad search there can return more.

Does FoxKnock have email warm-up?

No. FoxKnock has no warm-up network and no inbox placement testing. A new mailbox ramps from 8 sends a day toward its limit over 21 days. The limit is 25 a day per mailbox by default (50 at most), and a mailbox pauses itself above 2% bounces or 0.1% complaints. No tool can guarantee inbox placement.

Does FoxKnock work with Microsoft 365 or Outlook mailboxes?

Only with limits, and it may not work. FoxKnock connects mailboxes with a password over SMTP and IMAP, and Microsoft no longer accepts passwords (Basic authentication) for IMAP in Exchange Online and is retiring it for SMTP AUTH. A Microsoft 365 mailbox may not connect or may not sync replies, and FoxKnock does not offer Microsoft sign-in. Google Workspace and other SMTP and IMAP servers connect with an app password. Instantly connects Microsoft accounts with OAuth.

Can Instantly's AI agents send without my approval?

Yes, in Autopilot. Per its help center, the AI Sales Agent waits for manual approval by default, and Autopilot approves actions on its own. The AI Reply Agent offers Human-in-the-Loop or Autopilot, and Autopilot needs Hypergrowth or above. FoxKnock starts every sequence at review each and unlocks auto within limits after 50 approved emails, with under 10% edited and under 5% rejected. Nothing is approved by a timer, and the one exception is an opt-in booking-link reply.

Can I import my Instantly leads into FoxKnock?

Yes, through a CSV file. Export your leads from Instantly, then import up to 5,000 rows into FoxKnock, which maps columns such as email, name, title, company and domain. Add a country or lawful basis where your country rules require one, and bring your suppression list so opt-outs carry over. FoxKnock has no Instantly integration.
