Alternatives to Instantly
Instantly alternatives: 7 cold email tools compared by price unit and fit
The right Instantly alternative depends on the job: Smartlead, Saleshandy or Woodpecker for volume sending, lemlist or Reply.io for LinkedIn and calls in one sequence, Apollo for a large database, and FoxKnock for a smaller list where each email is researched and approved.
This guide is for small sales teams, founders and agencies who use Instantly, or are about to, and want to compare cold email tools like Instantly. It covers six tools plus FoxKnock, which we make. For a two-way comparison, see FoxKnock vs Instantly.
How we checked: we picked tools that run cold email sequences and publish enough pricing to compare. Every price and limit comes from the vendor's own pricing or help pages, read on October 17, 2026, and a figure that is only a vendor's own claim is labeled as one. We have not tested these products ourselves. FoxKnock is not neutral, so we say where it is weaker. Prices change, so check each page before you buy.
Facts checked from public sources listed at the end. Tools change often, so check before you decide. Written by the FoxKnock team, so read it knowing who wrote it.
Why people look for an alternative to Instantly
- Two subscriptions. Instantly sells Outreach (sending) and Instantly Credits (lead data and AI agents) as separate plans, or as bundles of both from $94 a month. A team that wants sending and data pays for both and sizes each one.
- Credits expire. Per Instantly's pricing file and help center, credits expire 2 months after purchase on monthly plans and 1 year after purchase on annual plans, so they do not carry forward the way a rolling balance would.
- Features sit on higher tiers. On the $47 Growth plan the Unibox (shared inbox) is preview-only. Webhooks and the AI Reply Agent's Autopilot mode need Hypergrowth ($97) or above. API access is on every plan.
- Plans are sized in emails and uploaded contacts. Growth includes 5,000 emails and 1,000 uploaded contacts a month, and Instantly says that past the included volume you upgrade a tier instead of paying overage. Every plan includes unlimited email accounts and warm-up. If you contact a few dozen accounts a week, you may use little of that capacity.
- AI actions cost credits. Per its help center, the AI Reply Agent costs 5 credits per reply generated, whether or not you send it, and the AI Sales Agent costs 5 credits per enriched lead. On the 1,500-credit Growth Credits plan, that caps those actions at 300 a month if nothing else uses credits.
- Email is the channel. Instantly's pricing page does not list LinkedIn, call or SMS steps, so confirm with Instantly if you need them. lemlist and Reply.io list them.

Each alternative in detail
1.FoxKnock
Try it free →Best for: Small teams and agencies that contact a smaller set of accounts and want each email built on cited research and approved by a person
Pricing: Free: $0 with 500 one-time credits (no card). Starter $49/mo (5,000 credits), Growth $149/mo (20,000), Agency $399/mo (60,000), Enterprise custom. One credit meter that rolls over; 1 credit is $0.01 at list price. As of Oct 2026.
Strengths
- Researches each company and cites it: every fact is an evidence card with a source URL, a quote and a timestamp, and cards expire (90 days for news, hiring and funding, a year for the rest)
- An AI claim check blocks AI-written drafts that make unsupported claims until a person fixes them (it is not infallible, and templates you write yourself are not checked)
- Approval comes first: review each is the default, and auto-sending unlocks per sequence only after 50 individually approved emails with under 10% edited and under 5% rejected
- One credit balance covers discovery, research, email finding and AI drafts. It rolls over, failed lookups are free, and the price of each paid action shows before you click
- Finds lookalike companies from 1 to 10 seed customers and monitors hiring, funding, news and tech-change signals (checks run hourly, daily or weekly)
Trade-offs
- New: launched October 2026, so there are no customer results yet
- No built-in contact database: companies and contacts come from the web and data providers
- Slower by design: 25 sends a day per mailbox by default (50 at most), no warm-up network and no open tracking
- Mailboxes connect over SMTP/IMAP with an app password, so there is no one-click sign-in, and Microsoft 365 is limited because Microsoft no longer accepts passwords for IMAP
2.Smartlead
WebsiteBest for: Agencies and high-volume senders that run many mailboxes and want sending priced by plan tier
Pricing: Base $39/mo (6,000 sends, 2,000 contacts), Pro $94 (90,000 sends, 30,000 contacts), Smart $174 (150,000 sends, unlimited contacts), Prime $379 (500,000 sends, unlimited contacts); about 17% less billed annually. Mailboxes, verification, SmartDelivery and SmartServers are add-ons. As of Oct 2026.
Strengths
- Unlimited email accounts on every plan, with no per-mailbox fee for connecting them
- Plans bundle verified prospect emails: 2,000 a month on Base, up to 170,000 on Prime
- White-label add-on at $29 a month per client workspace, with client workspaces available from Pro
- Monthly or annual billing with no lock-in, and a free trial that needs no card
Trade-offs
- The plan price is only the start: SmartSenders mailboxes (from $3.99 a month each plus a yearly domain fee), SmartDelivery placement testing (from $49 a month) and SmartServers ($39 a month per server) are priced separately
- Smartlead's own FAQ describes Smart and Prime as built for agencies and high-volume outreach, so a team of one to five people may stay on Base or Pro
3.lemlist
WebsiteBest for: Teams that want LinkedIn, calls and email in one sequence and will pay per user for it
Pricing: Email from $69/mo for 50,000 emails a month ($55 billed yearly), with higher email volumes priced higher. Multichannel $109 ($87 yearly), where its FAQ says pricing is based on the number of users. Enterprise custom. Lead data add-on from $20/mo ($16 yearly) for 2,000 credits; buying-intent signals add-on from $29/mo ($21 yearly) for 100 signals. As of Oct 2026.
Strengths
- The Multichannel plan adds LinkedIn, SMS and a built-in call dialer, with WhatsApp as an add-on
- Email warm-up (lemwarm) and a deliverability hub are included on all plans
- Data credits roll over for as long as the subscription is active, and you are charged only for successful results
- A 14-day free trial that includes 200 credits
Trade-offs
- The headline price covers the platform only: lead data and buying-intent signals are separate add-ons
- The Email plan lists unlimited users and senders, but Multichannel lists 5 senders per user and its FAQ says pricing is based on the number of users, so price your real team size before you commit
4.Reply.io
WebsiteBest for: Sales teams that want email, LinkedIn, calls and SMS on one platform, with an optional AI SDR
Pricing: Email Volume from $59 per user per month ($49 billed annually) at 1,000 active contacts, rising with active contacts; from 10,000 contacts the page lists unlimited users. Multichannel from $99 per user ($89 annual). Jason AI SDR from $500/mo billed annually ($800 monthly). On Email Volume, LinkedIn is $69 per account and calls and SMS $29 per account. As of Oct 2026.
Strengths
- Multichannel sequences across email, LinkedIn, calls, SMS and semi-automated WhatsApp, with warm-up included on every mailbox
- Jason, its AI SDR, offers co-pilot and autopilot modes if you want an agent
- Integrates with Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Copper and Close
- A 14-day free trial
Trade-offs
- Priced per user on Multichannel and on Email Volume up to 5,000 active contacts, with LinkedIn, calls and SMS as per-account add-ons on Email Volume; Multichannel lists 5 mailboxes on monthly billing and 10 on annual billing
- Jason is a separate product from $500 a month billed annually, and mailboxes on Email Volume plans fall under a fair-usage policy
5.Apollo
WebsiteBest for: Teams that want a large contact database and sequencing in one tool, billed per seat
Pricing: Free plan; Basic $49 per seat per month billed annually ($65 monthly), Professional $79 ($99), Organization $119 per seat billed annually (Apollo labels it annual only), with a 3-seat minimum. Credits are pooled across the team and expire each billing cycle. As of Oct 2026.
Strengths
- States a database of 240M+ contacts and 30M+ accounts (Apollo's own figure), a large pool for a broad title-and-industry search
- Email campaigns are included on every account, including Free (Gmail only)
- A free plan with no time limit, and pooled credits with per-user caps that admins can set
Trade-offs
- Billed per seat, and every seat on an account must be on the same plan
- Unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle, add-on credits included, and the Free and Basic plans list 1 mailbox per user
6.Saleshandy
WebsiteBest for: Small outbound teams and agencies that want high send volume, unlimited mailboxes and lead data in one plan
Pricing: Starter $34/mo billed annually ($41 monthly): 6,000 emails, 2,000 active prospects, 1 user. Pro $76 ($99): 100,000 emails, 30,000 prospects, 10 users. Scale $149 ($189): 200,000 emails, unlimited prospects and users. As of Oct 2026.
Strengths
- Unlimited email accounts and warm-up on every plan, with no per-mailbox fee for connecting them
- Lead finder credits are bundled (1,500, 4,000 or 8,000 a month): 1 credit per verified email, 6 per phone number, and nothing is charged for an unverified result
- Sequences can mix email, call, LinkedIn and WhatsApp steps, and 1:1 email tracking is included
Trade-offs
- Starter is a single seat, Pro covers 10 users, and SSO and white-label sit in Enterprise
- Mailboxes bought through Saleshandy are an add-on ($2.99 to $3.99 per mailbox per month plus $14 a year per domain), and its pricing page does not say whether unused credits roll over
7.Woodpecker
WebsiteBest for: Small teams that send to a short, steady list and want per-prospect pricing with unlimited mailboxes and seats
Pricing: From $35/mo for 500 contacted prospects on monthly billing, with higher tiers priced by prospects contacted; annual billing is 33% less. Add-ons: LinkedIn $29 per account, API and integrations $20/mo, agency panel $27 per active client. As of Oct 2026.
Strengths
- Unlimited email accounts and team members on every plan, with catch-all email verification included
- Follow-up emails do not count toward the limit, only prospects contacted do
- Includes AI interest-level detection for replies, A/B tests and a deliverability monitor
- A free trial of 14 days or 100 cold emails, with all features
Trade-offs
- Cost follows list size: the same prospect added to two campaigns counts twice, and an unused prospect limit does not carry over to the next month
- API and integrations are a paid add-on ($20 a month), and the 500-prospect tier lists 100 Lead Finder credits
How to choose an Instantly.ai alternative
Start with the job, not the tool name. Most alternatives to Instantly win on one of five jobs.
- Cheaper volume sending. Smartlead, Saleshandy and Woodpecker are volume-oriented senders like Instantly, and all three list unlimited email accounts. Compare the meter: sends and contacts (Smartlead), emails and active prospects (Saleshandy), or prospects contacted (Woodpecker).
- Email plus LinkedIn and calls in one sequence. lemlist, Reply.io and Saleshandy list these steps, and Woodpecker sells LinkedIn as a $29-per-account add-on. Expect per-user pricing from lemlist Multichannel and Reply.io, and add-ons for data or extra channels.
- A big database plus sequencing. Apollo sells sequencing on the same per-seat plan as its database of 240M+ contacts (its own figure). Instantly, lemlist and Reply.io also sell lead data, as separate credits or add-ons.
- A smaller list where every email should rest on research. This is FoxKnock's job. It does not try to out-send anyone. It researches each company, cites its sources, and waits for you to approve every draft by default. If you want a person to check AI-written email first, read about approval-first outreach.
- Agencies. Smartlead (white-label add-on, $29 per client workspace) and Woodpecker (agency panel, $27 per active client) sell client-workspace features. FoxKnock's Agency plan gives each client a separate workspace, up to 25, but plan and credits are per workspace, so it does not pool credits across clients.
If raw sending volume is your main need, a volume-first sender such as Instantly or Smartlead is a better fit than FoxKnock, and nothing on this page changes that.
Smartlead vs Instantly
Both are volume-first senders with unlimited email accounts. The difference is how data and extras are packaged.
| Instantly | Smartlead | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry plan | Growth $47: 5,000 emails, 1,000 uploaded contacts | Base $39: 6,000 sends, 2,000 contacts |
| Mid plan | Hypergrowth $97: 125,000 emails, 25,000 contacts | Pro $94: 90,000 sends, 30,000 contacts |
| Lead data | Separate Credits plan, from $9 (150 credits) | Verified emails bundled: 2,000 to 170,000 a month by plan |
| Extras | Done-for-you mailboxes and domains sold separately | Mailboxes, SmartDelivery and SmartServers sold separately |
We have not tested either product. Instantly's page lists Hypergrowth as 125,000 emails on the plan card and 100,000 in its comparison table, so confirm the number before you buy.
Cold email tools like Instantly: pricing units compared
A monthly price hides the unit. This is what each plan meters, per each vendor's pricing page on October 17, 2026.
| Tool | You pay for | Unused credits |
|---|---|---|
| Instantly | Plan tier by emails and uploaded contacts, plus a separate Credits plan | Expire after 2 months (monthly) or 1 year (annual) |
| Smartlead | Plan tier by sends and contacts, plus add-ons | Not stated |
| lemlist | Email plan by monthly email volume, Multichannel by users, plus data and signals add-ons | Roll over while subscribed |
| Reply.io | Per user up to 5,000 active contacts on Email Volume, then by active contacts; per user on Multichannel | Not stated |
| Apollo | Per seat, with pooled credits | Expire each billing cycle |
| Saleshandy | Plan tier by emails and active prospects | Not stated |
| Woodpecker | Prospects contacted per month | The unused limit does not carry over |
| FoxKnock | One credit meter for everything | Roll over every month |
Per-email plans favor high volume. Per-prospect plans suit short lists, though a prospect added to two campaigns counts twice on Woodpecker. Per-seat plans scale with headcount. Credit meters cost you in quiet months unless credits roll over. Our guide to credit-based pricing traps goes deeper.
On FoxKnock, at default credit prices (which may change), finding and verifying a work email is 11 credits and a standard research report is 225 ($2.25 at list price), so research is the expensive part. Check pricing for current prices.
Before you switch from Instantly
- Export your leads, opt-outs and bounces. Import the suppression list first so nobody who opted out gets a new email.
- Ramp each mailbox again. Warm-up settings and sending limits live inside each tool and do not transfer. Do not run one mailbox at full volume in two tools at once. See our notes on cold email deliverability. FoxKnock ramps a new mailbox from 8 sends a day over 21 days.
- Price your real add-ons. Mailboxes, verification, placement tests, data credits, LinkedIn accounts and API access all add up. Write the monthly total for your actual volume, not the entry plan.
- Check which tier holds the feature. On Instantly, webhooks need Hypergrowth. On Woodpecker, API and integrations cost $20 a month extra.
- Keep compliance in your own hands. Under GDPR, CAN-SPAM and similar laws the sender is responsible for compliance, and a tool can help with unsubscribe links and suppression lists without making a campaign lawful. Our GDPR cold email guide covers what to check for EU recipients. This is general information, not legal advice.
Try one small campaign first
Most tools here let you test before you pay: Instantly (14 days), Smartlead, lemlist (14 days), Reply.io (14 days), Saleshandy (7 days) and Woodpecker (14 days or 100 cold emails) offer free trials, and Apollo has a free plan with no time limit.
If your list is small and you want each email to rest on cited research, you can also try FoxKnock free. Create an account and use the 500 one-time credits, granted once you verify your email, which cover two standard research reports at default prices. Then judge whether the approval step suits how your team works.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest Instantly alternative?
By published entry price on monthly billing, Woodpecker is lowest at $35 for 500 contacted prospects, then Smartlead Base at $39 (6,000 sends), Saleshandy Starter at $41 (6,000 emails) and Instantly Growth at $47 (5,000 emails, lead data sold separately). On annual billing, Smartlead Base is $32, Saleshandy Starter $34 and Instantly Growth $37.60. The units differ, so compare your real volume. Apollo and FoxKnock have free plans.
Is Smartlead better than Instantly?
Neither wins on every job. Both are volume-first senders with unlimited email accounts. Smartlead bundles verified prospect emails into its plans (Base is $39 with 6,000 sends and 2,000 verified emails), while Instantly sells lead data separately as Credits. Smartlead adds mailboxes and SmartDelivery as paid add-ons. We have not tested either, so price your own volume.
Do Instantly credits roll over?
No. Per Instantly's pricing file and help center, credits expire 2 months after purchase on monthly plans and 1 year after purchase on annual plans. Apollo credits also expire each billing cycle. lemlist credits roll over while the subscription is active, and FoxKnock credits roll over from month to month.
Which Instantly.ai alternative handles LinkedIn and calls?
Several do. lemlist (Multichannel) and Reply.io (Multichannel, or per-account add-ons on Email Volume) list LinkedIn, calls and SMS. Saleshandy lists email, call, LinkedIn and WhatsApp steps, and Woodpecker sells LinkedIn as a $29-per-account add-on. FoxKnock is assisted instead: LinkedIn and call steps become tasks with a drafted note or script, and you send or place them yourself.
Do I lose my email warm-up if I switch from Instantly?
Plan to ramp up again. Warm-up settings and sending limits live inside each tool and do not transfer, so start the mailbox at lower volume and raise it gradually. Do not run one mailbox at full volume in two tools at once. FoxKnock has no warm-up network and ramps a new mailbox from 8 sends a day over 21 days toward its limit.
Is there a free alternative to Instantly?
Partly. Apollo has a free plan with no time limit and email campaigns on every account (Gmail only on Free), and FoxKnock's free tier gives 500 one-time credits once you verify your email. Instantly, Smartlead, lemlist, Reply.io, Saleshandy and Woodpecker offer free trials rather than free plans. Free options have limits, so check each page.
Does FoxKnock replace Instantly?
Only for some jobs. FoxKnock suits a smaller set of accounts where each email rests on cited research and a person approves it. It has no built-in contact database, no warm-up network and no open tracking, and it sends 25 emails a day per mailbox by default. For high-volume sending, a volume-first sender such as Instantly is the better fit. See FoxKnock vs Instantly.
