Alternatives to AI SDR tools

AI SDR alternatives for small teams: 7 tools, prices and approval controls

The AI SDR alternatives worth comparing for a small team are AiSDR, Instantly, Artisan, Reply.io, Amplemarket, 11x and FoxKnock. The right one depends on what you want to approve before anything sends and on what you can commit to paying.

This page is for founders, small sales teams and agencies weighing an AI SDR: software that finds prospects, writes outreach and sends it for you. We focus on the AI SDR with a human in the loop, meaning what sends without asking and what it costs to find out.

We included tools that are live today and sell an AI SDR or an AI sales agent. FoxKnock is listed first because this is our page, and the other six run from the lowest to the highest published entry price. Prices and features come from public vendor pages we read on October 17, 2026 (listed under Sources), plus one third-party price tracker that we label. We have not tested these products, and FoxKnock is ours, so weigh our view accordingly.

Facts checked from public sources listed at the end. Tools change often, so check before you decide. Written by the FoxKnock team, so read it knowing who wrote it.

Why people look for an alternative to AI SDR tools

  • Annual terms. 11x lists Alice from $3,750 a month billed annually, Amplemarket's Startup plan is $600 a month on an annual term, and Reply.io's Jason AI SDR is $500 a month billed annually ($800 a month if billed monthly). A year is a long commitment before you know whether outbound works for you.
  • Prices that are hard to forecast. The meter differs by tool: new prospects, credits, people prospected, or a per-user fee plus a charge for each channel. Instantly splits sending and AI credits into two subscriptions. A headline price does not tell you what one meeting costs.
  • Control over what sends. In most of these tools autopilot is a setting you choose, and Artisan's own FAQ calls Ava autonomous by default. Instantly's Reply Agent autopilot needs a Hypergrowth or higher Outreach plan. Teams that want to read every message first look for per-message approval, or for autonomy that has to be earned.
  • Whose mailboxes send. 11x includes mailboxes it manages, and AiSDR lists a warmed-up mailbox it sets up for you at $33. That is convenient, but a team that wants to send only from the mailboxes it already uses should ask before signing.
  • Credits that run down or expire. Instantly charges 5 credits for every AI reply generated, even if you edit it, and its credits expire two months after purchase on monthly plans. Artisan's annual plans grant a year of credits up front, and unused annual credits do not roll over.
  • Fit and scale. AiSDR's team plans start at 1,000 people contacted a month and are priced by sales. Reply.io's Jason is a separate plan from its core platform. Artisan's Intern plan covers about 500 people contacted a month, by Artisan's own estimate.

Team, Scale and Enterprise are quoted by sales. Mailboxes and phone numbers are billed separately.
Reply.io (Jason AI SDR)Teams that want an AI SDR inside a multichannel engagement platform (email, LinkedIn, calls, SMS) with per-sequence approvalAs of Oct 2026: Jason AI SDR Starter is $500/mo billed annually for 1,000 active contacts ($800 for 2,000, $1,000 for 3,000), or $800/mo billed monthly for 1,000. A 14-day free trial of the core platform is offered.
Amplemarket (Duo)Sales teams that can commit to an annual term and want signal-led prospecting with a built-in contact databaseAs of Oct 2026: Startup is $600/mo on an annual term (2 users, 27,000 contacts, 13,500 email credits and 600 phone credits per user per year). Pro and Enterprise are custom. The pricing FAQ on the same page says $36,000 a year, which does not match 12 x $3,750 ($45,000), so confirm in writing. Billing is annual by default.

Each alternative in detail

  1. 1.FoxKnock

    Try it free →

Best for: Small teams and agencies that want researched, cited outreach they approve before it sends from their own mailboxes

Pricing: As of Oct 2026: Free is $0 with 500 one-time credits. Starter is $49/mo (5,000 credits), Growth $149/mo (20,000) and Agency $399/mo (60,000). Enterprise is custom. 1 credit is $0.01 at list price, and credits are charged when a result is found or accepted. Month to month, no contract. Credit prices can change, so check the pricing page.

    Strengths

    • Four approval levels per sequence: draft only, review each (the default), batch approve and auto within limits. Auto is available only after 50 messages approved one by one, under 10% edited and under 5% rejected, and never runs on a timer.
    • Research you can click through: each fact shows its source, a quote and when it was read, and an AI claim check blocks drafts whose claims no fact supports. The check is AI-based and skips templates you write yourself.
    • Sends from your own mailboxes inside daily caps, with a send ramp and an automatic pause when bounce or complaint rates run high.
    • Free to start, one credit meter, failed lookups are free and hard-bounced emails it found are refunded.

    Trade-offs

    • New: launched October 2026, with no customer results yet.
    • No built-in contact database, and email is the only channel it sends. LinkedIn and call steps are tasks you do by hand.
    • Mailboxes connect with an app password over SMTP and IMAP, not Google or Microsoft sign-in. That suits Google Workspace and any SMTP and IMAP server. Microsoft 365 is limited: Microsoft no longer accepts passwords for IMAP in Exchange Online and is retiring them for SMTP AUTH, so a Microsoft 365 mailbox may not connect or may not sync replies.
    • Not yet SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certified, and no SSO.
    • Standard research makes each prospect cost more than the per-contact prices elsewhere on this list: about 276 credits ($2.76 at list price) at default credit prices, which may change.
  2. 2.AiSDR

    Website

Best for: Small teams that want to test an AI SDR across email and LinkedIn, paying per person prospected with no monthly fee

Pricing: As of Oct 2026: pay as you go is $1.50 per person prospected, charged daily, with no monthly fee. Team plans, for 1,000+ people a month, are priced by sales and billed monthly on quarterly contracts. Add-ons include a $33 warmed-up mailbox and a managed service at $149 a campaign.

    Strengths

    • No contract on pay as you go: you can sign up without a card, build a campaign and pay when you launch it, and the page says you can pause outbound at any time.
    • Email and LinkedIn steps in one sequence, plus a native two-way HubSpot sync (Salesforce on team plans).
    • Its Ami agent proposes campaigns, and the help center says nothing goes out until you approve it.
    • Research, lists and writing cost nothing extra on pay as you go, per the page.

    Trade-offs

    • Cost rises with every person reached: 1,000 people a month is $1,500 at the listed rate (our arithmetic).
    • The page gives two minimum campaign prices, from $7.50 in one FAQ answer and from $3 in another. Team plan prices and rollover rules are not public.
    • Two help center articles read differently on reviewing AI replies. One, last updated about 8 months before we read it, says AI replies cannot be reviewed before they send. A newer one, updated about a month before, says co-pilot mode keeps you in the loop on replies. Ask which applies to your account.
    • Older reviews quote Solo, Explore and Scale plans at $250, $900 and $2,500 a month. UsagePricing, a third-party tracker, recorded AiSDR replacing them with the current model between Oct 5 and Oct 15, 2026.
  3. 3.Instantly

    Website

Best for: Teams that already run cold email and want AI agents added to a sending platform at a low entry price

Pricing: As of Oct 2026: two subscriptions. Outreach Growth is $47/mo (5,000 emails, 1,000 uploaded contacts, unlimited email accounts and warmup) and Hypergrowth is $97/mo. Instantly Credits start at $9/mo (150), and $47/mo buys 1,500. The Starter bundle, with the AI Sales Agent, is $94/mo. The AI Sales Agent costs 5 credits per lead and the AI Reply Agent 5 credits per reply. A 14-day free trial is offered.

    Strengths

    • The AI Sales Agent requires manual approval by default: you approve or reject recommended leads and each email draft, singly or in bulk, and autopilot is a setting you turn on.
    • The Reply Agent has a human-in-the-loop mode in which you approve replies before they send.
    • Unlimited email accounts and warmup on its Outreach plans, so sending runs from accounts you connect, plus a lead database Instantly puts at 450M+ contacts (its figure).

    Trade-offs

    • Sending and AI credits are two subscriptions, and agents draw on credits: 5 per lead and 5 per reply, even if you edit the draft.
    • Reply Agent autopilot is only available on Hypergrowth or higher Outreach plans, so more autonomy means a higher tier.
    • Credits expire: two months after purchase on monthly plans and one year after purchase on annual plans, per its pricing page.

  4. 4.Artisan (Ava)

    Website

Best for: Founders and small teams that want an autonomous AI BDR with a free plan and credit-based self-serve tiers

Pricing: As of Oct 2026, on Artisan's pricing page (Startups tab): Free is $0 with 300 credits a month and no campaigns. Intern is $250/mo billed annually or $280 billed monthly for 10,000 credits (about 500 leads contacted a month). Employee is $600/mo annual or $660 monthly for 25,000 credits (about 1,250 leads). Team, Scale and Enterprise are quoted by sales. Mailboxes and phone numbers are billed separately.

    Strengths

    • A free plan, a 30-day trial with 10,000 credits and no card, and published self-serve prices with a monthly billing option.
    • Artisan says you can approve before sending, lock tone and CTAs, set banned phrases and set escalation rules.
    • Artisan states it is SOC 2 Type II certified and lists SSO/SAML and audit logs on its Enterprise plan, plus a contact database of 250M+ (its figure).

    Trade-offs

    • Credits are used at about 20 per person contacted (Artisan's estimate), so Intern covers about 500 people a month.
    • Annual plans grant a year of credits up front and unused annual credits do not roll over. Monthly plans carry them to the end of the next billing period.
    • Artisan's FAQ calls Ava autonomous by default, with approval something you configure. We could not read the approval settings in detail on public pages, so ask for a demo of them.
    • Mailboxes and phone numbers cost extra, and the pricing page lists no prices for them.
  5. 5.Reply.io (Jason AI SDR)

    Website

Best for: Teams that want an AI SDR inside a multichannel engagement platform (email, LinkedIn, calls, SMS) with per-sequence approval

Pricing: As of Oct 2026: Jason AI SDR Starter is $500/mo billed annually for 1,000 active contacts ($800 for 2,000, $1,000 for 3,000), or $800/mo billed monthly for 1,000. Growth starts at $1,500/mo billed annually (5,000 active contacts). Jason is booked through a sales call. The core platform is separate: from $49 per user a month billed annually (Multichannel from $89), with LinkedIn at $69 and calls and SMS at $29 per account a month. A 14-day free trial of the core platform is offered.

    Strengths

    • Per-sequence approval mode: every generated message waits in a Pending approvals queue that you edit, approve singly or in bulk, or delete. Or you switch that sequence to automatic.
    • Reply handlers set per question type to Auto, Draft or Stop and notify.
    • LinkedIn, calls and SMS are built-in channels on paid add-ons, not tasks you do by hand.

    Trade-offs

    • Jason is a separate plan from the core platform. The core platform is priced per user with paid channel add-ons, so the total depends on seats and channels.
    • Automatic mode sends without review, and we found no documented requirement that a sequence earn it first.
  6. 6.Amplemarket (Duo)

    Website

Best for: Sales teams that can commit to an annual term and want signal-led prospecting with a built-in contact database

Pricing: As of Oct 2026: Startup is $600/mo on an annual term (2 users, 27,000 contacts, 13,500 email credits and 600 phone credits per user per year). Growth and Elite are custom. All plans include a free trial.

    Strengths

    • Contact data, email and phone credits, AI intent signals, multichannel sequences and Duo Copilot are all in the Startup plan.
    • Duo Copilot scans for buying signals and prepares multichannel sequences that reps review, edit, regenerate or send. Autopilot is optional and can be switched on for specific signals.
    • A free trial on every plan.

    Trade-offs

    • $600 a month on an annual term is about $7,200 a year at the entry tier.
    • Credit allowances are per user per year, and the pricing page does not say what happens to unused credits.
    • Autopilot schedules outreach without waiting for manual review, and we found no documented track-record requirement.
  7. 7.11x (Alice)

    Website

Best for: Teams with budget that want a managed AI SDR, with mailboxes and onboarding included, and will sign an annual contract

Pricing: As of Oct 2026: Alice Growth is from $3,750/mo billed annually (up to 5 users, 2,000 new prospects a month, 11x-managed Gmail mailboxes, bi-directional CRM sync). Pro and Enterprise are custom. The pricing FAQ on the same page says $36,000 a year, which does not match 12 x $3,750 ($45,000), so confirm in writing. Billing is annual by default.

    Strengths

    • Priced per new prospect, not per send, so a longer sequence does not raise the bill (per 11x).
    • Domain setup, warmup, inbox rotation, onboarding and CRM sync are bundled.
    • Docs describe three approval modes, review every message, a named approver or autopilot, chosen per segment and motion.

    Trade-offs

    • The highest entry price here: $36,000 to $45,000 a year, depending on which of its two figures applies.
    • The page lists no month-to-month option, and its two yearly figures differ.
    • Docs advise validating output on a segment before autopilot, but we found no documented gate that the tool must earn it.

Best AI SDR for your situation

There is no single best AI SDR. Pick by the job, the budget and how much you want to see before a message goes out.

  • You want a managed service and have budget. 11x bundles managed mailboxes, onboarding and CRM sync, from $3,750 a month on an annual contract.
  • You want to start small. AiSDR is pay as you go at $1.50 per person, with no monthly fee. Artisan has a free plan (no campaigns) and a monthly billing option. FoxKnock starts free with 500 one-time credits and runs month to month.
  • You already run cold email and want AI agents on top. Instantly adds a Sales Agent and a Reply Agent to a sending platform that starts at $47 a month.
  • Your reps work from buying signals. Amplemarket's Duo Copilot watches for signals and prepares sequences for a rep to review. It asks for an annual term.
  • You need LinkedIn, calls and SMS as built-in channels. Reply.io covers them as paid add-ons, and AiSDR covers email and LinkedIn. FoxKnock does not: it sends email only, and its LinkedIn and call steps are tasks you do by hand.
  • You want researched, cited outreach you approve. FoxKnock is built for this. It is new, email-first and has no customer results yet.

Every tool here documents some way to approve before sending. They differ in the default, in what you approve (a campaign, a sequence or a message) and in how autopilot gets switched on.

AI SDR with a human in the loop: how approval works in each tool

"Human in the loop" means different things. This is what each vendor documents.

ToolWhat you can chooseHow autopilot gets switched on
11xReview every message, a named approver, or autopilot, per segment and motionDocs advise validating on a segment first; no gate documented
ArtisanApprove before sending, tone and CTA locks, banned phrases, escalation rulesAutonomous by default; approval settings not public on pages we could read
AiSDRYou approve the campaign Ami proposes; two help center articles differ on reviewing repliesNo rule documented
Reply.ioPer sequence: approval mode (single or bulk) or automatic; reply handlers set to Auto, Draft or StopNo rule documented
AmplemarketReps review, edit or send Duo sequences; autopilot is optional, per signalNo rule documented
InstantlySales Agent: manual approval by default, autopilot optional. Reply Agent: approve replies, or autopilot on higher plansThe app prompts for autopilot once an agent has 100 leads contacted, 3 replies, 3 days and a bounce rate of 3% or less; no lock documented
FoxKnockPer sequence: draft only, review each (default), batch approve, auto within limitsEarned: 50 messages approved one by one, under 10% edited, under 5% rejected

Most of these tools make autopilot a switch. 11x advises validating output before autopilot, and Instantly prompts for it once an agent meets thresholds such as 100 leads contacted and 3 replies. We found no documented rule in either that blocks switching it on earlier.

FoxKnock keeps auto within limits locked until a sequence has 50 messages approved one by one, under 10% edited and under 5% rejected, and it never approves on a timer. The one exception is an opt-in booking-link reply to meeting requests.

That is a design choice, not a guarantee. FoxKnock's claim check is AI-based and can miss things, and templates you write yourself skip it, so you still read the drafts. The full rules are on the approval-first outreach page.

AI SDR tools pricing compared: what each price buys

These tools sell different things, so a monthly price alone does not compare.

ToolWhat the meter countsEntry price we could verify
AiSDRPeople prospected$1.50 per person, pay as you go; team plans priced by sales
InstantlyTwo subscriptions: sending, and credits for AI agentsOutreach from $47/mo; Starter bundle with credits $94/mo
ArtisanCredits, about 20 per person contactedIntern $250/mo billed annually or $280 monthly
Reply.ioJason: active contacts a month, its own plan; core platform: per user plus channel add-onsJason from $500/mo billed annually ($800 billed monthly), booked through a sales call
AmplemarketPlan with user, contact and credit allowancesStartup $600/mo, annual term
11xNew prospects a month, outreach includedFrom $3,750/mo, billed annually
FoxKnockCredits ($0.01 at list price), charged when a result is found or acceptedFree, then $49/mo

Dividing price by volume (our arithmetic, at full use) gives about $1.88 per new prospect on 11x Growth ($3,750 for 2,000, or $1.50 if its $36,000 a year figure is the right one), $1.50 per person on AiSDR pay as you go and about $0.50 per person contacted on Artisan Intern billed annually (10,000 credits at about 20 each is 500 people). Each unit bundles different work, so these are not like for like.

FoxKnock costs more per prospect than those figures when you use standard research. At default credit prices, which may change, one prospect with discovery, standard research, a found contact, a found and verified work email and one AI-drafted email is about 276 credits ($2.76 at list price). Starter's 5,000 credits cover about 18 prospects at that depth, or about 160 if you skip research and send templates (31 credits each).

FoxKnock is built for fewer, better-researched contacts, not volume. See the pricing page for current prices and AI SDR pricing compared for more vendors.

How we read these prices: Artisan shows its self-serve prices in a tab that needs a browser to load, and Reply.io's pricing pages block automated readers, so we read both in a browser. Reply.io shows several price steps, so we quote the entry step. AiSDR's page names two different minimum campaign prices.

Questions to ask before you switch AI SDR tools

Ask each vendor in writing. The full list is in the AI SDR buyer's checklist.

  1. Whose inboxes send? 11x lists mailboxes it manages. AiSDR can set up a warmed-up mailbox for you. Artisan says it sends from your own domains. FoxKnock sends from mailboxes you connect with an app password over SMTP and IMAP, which suits Google Workspace and any SMTP and IMAP server but is limited for Microsoft 365.
  2. What sends without asking? Ask about first emails, follow-ups and replies separately, and whether a timer or a confidence score can release a message.
  3. How is a hot lead defined? A reply, a positive reply and a confirmed meeting are different numbers. In FoxKnock a meeting counts only when a person marks it booked. See what is a hot lead.
  4. What do you pay for when it goes wrong? Instantly charges 5 credits per generated reply even if you edit it. Ask about bounces, failed lookups and rejected drafts.
  5. What happens to unused volume? Instantly credits expire after two months on monthly plans and one year on annual ones. Artisan annual credits do not roll over. AiSDR says rollover depends on the subscription. FoxKnock credits roll over every month.
  6. What are the contract and refund terms? 11x defaults to annual billing, Amplemarket Startup is an annual term, Reply.io's lowest Jason price is billed annually (monthly billing costs more), and AiSDR's team plans run on quarterly contracts. Get renewal and refund terms in writing.
  7. Can you stop everything at once? AiSDR says you can pause outbound at any time. FoxKnock has a workspace kill switch that pauses all sending. Ask every vendor for the equivalent.
  8. Where does your data go? FoxKnock sends content to Anthropic's Claude for its AI features and runs on a server in Nuremberg, Germany. Ask the others which model providers see your prospect data.

Try FoxKnock on a small batch

If researched, approve-first outreach sounds like what you need, start with the free credits: 500 one-time credits and no card. FoxKnock is new and email-first, so run it on a small batch, read every draft and judge it against the tools above.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI SDR for a small team?

There is no single best AI SDR. It depends on your budget and on how much you want to approve before anything sends, and we are not a neutral judge because FoxKnock is on the list. To start small, look at AiSDR's pay as you go, Artisan's monthly plans or FoxKnock's free plan. For a managed service with a budget, look at 11x. For buying signals and a built-in contact database, look at Amplemarket.

What is an AI SDR with a human in the loop?

It is an AI SDR where a person decides what the AI may send. The models we found are draft only (you send), per-message approval, batch approval, autopilot you switch on per segment, signal or sequence, and autonomy that has to be earned from a track record. Ask which one is the default and which are switches you can flip on day one.

Can an AI SDR send emails without my approval?

Yes. 11x, Reply.io, Instantly and Amplemarket all document an autopilot or automatic mode that sends without per-message review, and Artisan's FAQ calls Ava autonomous by default. FoxKnock sends without review only after a sequence has 50 messages approved one by one, under 10% edited and under 5% rejected, and never because a timer ran out. The one opt-in exception is a booking-link reply to meeting requests.

How much does an AI SDR cost?

From about $1.50 per person prospected to $3,750 or more a month, depending on the tool. Entry prices we read on October 17, 2026: AiSDR $1.50 per person, Instantly $47 a month for sending or $94 with AI credits, Artisan Intern $250 a month billed annually, Reply.io Jason $500 a month billed annually, Amplemarket Startup $600 a month on an annual term and 11x from $3,750 a month billed annually. FoxKnock is free to start, then $49 to $399 a month. Prices change, so check each vendor's page.

Is there a free AI SDR?

No tool we reviewed runs campaigns for free indefinitely, but several have a free start. Artisan has a free plan (300 credits a month, no campaigns) and a 30-day trial with 10,000 credits and no card. AiSDR lets you sign up without a card and build a campaign before you pay. Instantly and Reply.io offer 14-day free trials, and Amplemarket says every plan includes one. FoxKnock's Free plan gives 500 one-time credits with no card.

What should I check before switching AI SDR tools?

Check whose inboxes send, what sends without asking, how the vendor defines a hot lead, what you pay when a lookup or an email fails, what happens to unused volume, and the contract and refund terms. Our AI SDR buyer's checklist turns these into questions you can send to a vendor.

Is FoxKnock an AI SDR?

Not in the autonomous sense. FoxKnock is AI prospecting with earned autonomy: it finds companies like your best customers, researches them with cited sources, drafts outreach and sends from your own mailboxes after you approve it. It launched in October 2026, so there are no customer results to show, and it has no built-in contact database.
