Alternatives to Clay
Clay alternatives for small teams without a GTM engineer
The right Clay alternative depends on which Clay job you want to replace: a finished outbound loop (FoxKnock, Origami, Unify, Amplemarket), table building for less (Databar, Floqer), sending (Instantly) or plain contact data (Apollo, Lusha).
This list is for small teams and agencies that like what Clay does but have no GTM engineer to build and maintain it, or find two meters (actions and data credits) hard to budget. Clay is strong, and for many teams staying is the right call.
How we picked: tools that cover at least one job Clay does, publish a price or a clear credit rule, and are live today. That left nine. Each was priced from its own pricing page or help center on 2026-10-17, and vendor claims are labelled as theirs. FoxKnock is our product, so it is listed first and we say where it falls short. For a head-to-head, see FoxKnock vs Clay.
Facts checked from public sources listed at the end. Tools change often, so check before you decide. Written by the FoxKnock team, so read it knowing who wrote it.
Why people look for an alternative to Clay
- Two meters to forecast. Clay bills actions (platform usage, counted when an enrichment returns data) and data credits (data and AI bought from its marketplace). Your own API keys skip data credits but still use an action, per Clay's FAQ.
- Plan gates. Launch is $167 a month billed annually ($185 billed monthly). CRM sync, HTTP API calls, webhooks and web intent signals start on Growth, at $446 billed annually ($495 monthly). Clay's plan table caps Free tables at 200 rows and lists email campaigns from Launch.
- The March 2026 repricing. Clay's announcement says customers who mostly use their own API keys, or who were on the old Pro plan, may see a price increase, and that customers who buy more enrichments through Clay will see the biggest savings. Whether you came out ahead depends on your mix.
- Rollover differs by meter. Actions reset every billing cycle and never roll over, because Clay treats them as platform capacity. Data credits roll over, with limits that depend on plan and billing period (details below).
- It is built for GTM engineers. Clay's pricing announcement says its goal is to be your default tool for GTM engineering, and its help pages point to Clay University, certifications and an experts directory. That is a strength if you have a builder and extra work if you do not.
- Sending sits behind paid plans. Clay's plan table lists email campaigns from Launch up, and buying domains and mailboxes for its Sequencer on Growth, so adding outbound to enrichment can mean a higher tier.

Each alternative in detail
1.FoxKnock
Try it free →Best for: A finished outbound loop for a small team or agency with no GTM engineer: your website in, cited research and drafts you approve, sent from your own mailboxes.
Pricing: Oct 2026: Free is $0 with 500 one-time credits and no card. Starter is $49/mo (5,000 credits), Growth $149/mo (20,000), Agency $399/mo (60,000), Enterprise custom. Billed monthly, cancel any time, no contract. One credit is $0.01 at list price and credits roll over. Credit costs per action can change, so see the pricing page.
Strengths
- Research as evidence cards: every fact shows its source URL, quote and date. Drafts with claims no fact supports are blocked until a person fixes them (AI-checked, and templates you write yourself are not claim-checked).
- Approval first: every email waits for you by default. Automatic sending is opt-in per sequence and unlocks only after 50 emails approved one by one, with an edit rate under 10% and a reject rate under 5%.
- One credit meter instead of two, a monthly spend cap you set, and free failed lookups: email finds, phone finds, enrichment and research charge only on success.
- Built-in GDPR tools (country rules, lawful-basis checks, suppression lists, access export and erasure), though compliance stays your responsibility.
Trade-offs
- New: launched in October 2026, so there are no customer results to show yet.
- No contact database of its own: it finds companies and people through web search and data providers, so coverage varies.
- Not a table builder: a fixed loop plus simple when-then plays, a one-way push to HubSpot, no Salesforce or warehouse sync and no warm-up network.
- Mailboxes connect over SMTP/IMAP with app passwords, not Google or Microsoft sign-in.
2.Origami
WebsiteBest for: A finished loop driven by plain-English prompts: it suggests plays from your website, searches the live web and runs the campaigns you approve.
Pricing: Oct 2026: Starter $99/mo (7,500 credits), Pro $199/mo (15,000), Max $399/mo (30,000), Enterprise custom. Plans renew monthly. Top-ups are $22, $20 or $18 per 1,000 credits by plan. A verified email costs 3 credits and a phone number 15, free if not found. A 7-day Starter trial with 2,000 credits needs a card.
Strengths
- Sequencer included on paid plans with no per-seat fee, plus unlimited team members. Starter includes 5 email and 3 LinkedIn senders; extra email senders are $2/mo.
- Says each prompt searches 50+ sources in real time, with a 5-provider email waterfall and a 9-provider phone waterfall.
- Per its FAQ, you can review the audience, messages and content, and make changes, before approving a play to launch.
- Plans include LinkedIn senders as well as email senders.
Trade-offs
- Paid plans start at $99/mo, and its pricing FAQ says the 7-day Starter trial needs a card.
- Starter runs the Origami 1.2 Lite model; the 1.2 Max model starts at Pro ($199/mo).
- Credit rollover is not stated on its pricing page.
3.Unify
WebsiteBest for: Reps who want to build lists, enrich, research and sequence from one chat, with a seat-based plan and a free tier.
Pricing: Oct 2026: Free (limited credits, up to 3 seats). Base $20 per seat per month (800 credits per seat), Pro $60 per seat per month (2,400 credits per seat), both billed monthly. Business is custom and billed annually.
Strengths
- Low entry price: a free plan, then $20 per seat per month.
- A hard credit cap pauses credit-using actions instead of billing overages, and you can see which data vendors power your results.
- Says it maintains SOC 2 Type II compliance and supports SSO.
Trade-offs
- Credits are allocated per seat and reset each cycle; top-ups are one-time and unused top-up credits carry over for up to 12 months.
- Agentic runs vary: Unify says deep multi-step workflows can use a lot of credits, and phone enrichment averages about 4 credits against about 1 for an email.
- Website intent, signal automations and managed mailboxes are listed on the custom annual Business plan; CRM sync on Pro is read-only.
4.Amplemarket
WebsiteBest for: A sales team that can commit to an annual term and wants a contact database, AI signals and multichannel sequences in one product.
Pricing: Oct 2026: Startup is $600/mo on an annual term (about $7,200 a year) with 2 users and 27,000 contacts. Growth and Elite are custom. Every plan includes a free trial.
Strengths
- Its own contact and company database, with 13,500 email and 600 phone credits per user per year on Startup.
- Multichannel sequences and AI Intent Signals are listed on the Startup plan.
- A free trial on every plan, and a scaled customer success team on Startup.
Trade-offs
- The highest published entry price on this page: $600/mo on an annual term.
- Growth and Elite are custom-quoted, and its pricing page shows no month-to-month option.
- Credit rollover rules are not stated on its pricing page.
5.Databar
WebsiteBest for: Table building on a smaller budget: a spreadsheet-style grid over 100+ data providers, with waterfalls and web scrapers.
Pricing: Oct 2026: Build is $99/mo billed monthly (5,000 credits), Scale $495/mo (50,000), Enterprise custom. Annual billing saves 12%. Each workspace gets 100 free trial credits. Credits roll over for 1 month on monthly plans.
Strengths
- Build includes CRM and email integrations, bring-your-own API keys, up to 5 custom HTTP APIs and batch enrichment of up to 10,000 rows.
- You pay only for successful requests, not for requests that return no data or an error.
- A lower monthly entry price than Clay Launch ($99 against $185 billed monthly), though credits and limits are not like for like.
Trade-offs
- You still design and maintain the tables and workflows yourself.
- Sending happens elsewhere: it lists email and outreach integrations, and no sequencer is listed on its pricing page.
- The two published plans jump from $99 to $495 a month.
6.Floqer
WebsiteBest for: Table building plus CRM enrichment for a whole team: waterfalls, web agents and signals, with unlimited seats and two-way Salesforce and HubSpot sync.
Pricing: Oct 2026: Free includes 100 credits. Self-serve starts at $49/mo for 2,000 credits (annual billing saves 10%), with credits sized on a slider and top-ups available. Enterprise is custom and annual.
Strengths
- Unlimited seats, with waterfalls, web agents, two-way Salesforce and HubSpot sync, HTTP APIs and webhooks on the self-serve plan.
- Credits roll over while your subscription is active.
- Lists human-in-the-loop approvals in Slack for workflows.
Trade-offs
- SSO, SAML, audit logs and SOC 2 Type 2 are listed as Enterprise only.
- Focused on data and signals: no sequencer is listed on its pricing page.
- Workflows are still built by someone on your team, though its Apps let others run them.
7.Instantly
WebsiteBest for: Sending: cold email with unlimited email accounts and automated warmup. Lead search (SuperSearch, 450M+ contacts per Instantly) is sold separately as credits.
Pricing: Oct 2026: Outreach Growth $47/mo (5,000 emails, 1,000 uploaded contacts), Hypergrowth $97/mo, Light Speed $358/mo. Instantly Credits are a separate subscription, from $9/mo (150 credits) to $47/mo (1,500 credits) and up. Credits expire 2 months after purchase on monthly plans, 1 year on annual.
Strengths
- Unlimited email accounts and automated warmup on every Outreach plan.
- Credits cover SuperSearch lookups, Copilot and the AI agents, so data and sending can live in one vendor.
- A low sending-only entry price at $47 a month.
Trade-offs
- Sending and data are two subscriptions, and unused credits expire.
- Webhooks need Hypergrowth or higher.
- AI agents draw credits (5 per lead generated, 5 per AI reply), so AI costs scale with volume.
8.Apollo
WebsiteBest for: Enrichment plus a contact database in one seat-based tool: search (240M+ contacts by Apollo's count), enrich, then send sequences, with a free plan to test.
Pricing: Oct 2026: Free is $0 with no time limit (900 credits per seat per year, granted monthly). Basic is $49, Professional $79 and Organization $119 per seat per month billed annually (Organization has a 3-seat minimum). Apollo's page says annual billing saves 24% against monthly. Credits are pooled and do not roll over.
Strengths
- A free plan with no time limit, and email campaigns on every account.
- Basic adds unlimited sequences, CRM integrations, waterfall enrichment and a US dialer (credits apply); Professional adds A/Z testing, AI lead scoring and more call-recording minutes.
- Usage reports filter credit spend by date range, credit type and user.
Trade-offs
- Credits reset every billing cycle and do not roll over, add-on credits included.
- Every seat must be on the same plan, and Organization needs at least 3 seats.
- Apollo's FAQ says the plans on its page are for internal business use, and that sharing its data with customers or reselling it needs a separate agreement. Agencies should ask whether client work is covered.
9.Lusha
WebsiteBest for: Enrichment only: look up verified emails and phone numbers for a list you already have, with a Chrome extension, API and CRM integrations.
Pricing: Oct 2026: Free is 40 credits a month. Starter is $49.90/mo billed monthly (400 credits) or $37.45/mo billed yearly, Pro from $69.90/mo (600 credits), Premium from $399.90/mo (3,400 credits), Scale custom. An email reveal costs 1 credit and a phone number 5.
Strengths
- Pay by the reveal, with a permanent free plan.
- One credit balance across its app, Chrome extension, API and MCP connectors.
- On monthly Pro and Premium plans, unused credits roll over up to twice the monthly allowance.
Trade-offs
- A phone number costs 5 times an email in credits, so call-heavy lists use the allowance quickly.
- Rollover is not listed for Starter or Free, and on annual plans credits are a year-long pool that does not carry into renewal.
- Per-user credit limits are listed on Premium and Scale only.
Tools like Clay: which alternative fits your job?
Start with the job you want to stop doing in Clay. The nine tools above run in that order: a finished loop, then table building, sending and plain data lookups.
You want the loop finished for you. FoxKnock, Origami, Unify and Amplemarket each aim to take you from "who should I contact" to sent emails.
- Origami works from plain-English prompts and a live-web search, and lets you review a play before it launches.
- Unify is chat-driven and billed per seat.
- Amplemarket brings its own database but asks for an annual term at $600 a month.
- FoxKnock is approval-first, has no database of its own and launched in October 2026. See AI prospect research for how its cited research works and approval-first outreach for exactly what approval means.
You want to keep a table, for less. Databar and Floqer keep the grid, waterfalls and AI research. Databar Build is $99 a month billed monthly, and Floqer starts at $49 with unlimited seats. You keep the learning curve, so this only pays off if someone on your team will build and maintain the tables.
You mostly need to send. Instantly is built around sending. Its lead data and AI agents run on a separate credits subscription, so budget for both.
You only need contact data. Lusha charges per reveal, and Apollo bundles a database, sequences and credits per seat. Both are built around contact data, so check how much account research you will still do by hand.
A Clay alternative for small teams, by team type
- Solo founder or two people: start free. FoxKnock (500 one-time credits), Apollo, Lusha, Unify and Floqer all have free plans.
- Small agency: check how seats are billed. Apollo and Unify charge per seat, and Apollo says its standard plans are for internal business use, so ask whether client work is covered. Origami and Floqer include unlimited seats, and so does FoxKnock Agency ($399 a month). Agency also gives 25 separate client workspaces, but plan and credits are per workspace and are not pooled across them.
- A builder or a CRM-heavy stack: staying on Clay may be right. Its pricing page lists 150+ data providers, CRM and warehouse sync on Growth, and SSO on Enterprise. Check any alternative against your own must-have list.
Cheaper Clay alternatives: what you are billed per
Entry prices hide the real difference, which is what you are billed per. Units differ between tools, so a lower entry price is not always a cheaper tool for your workload. Figures are as of 2026-10-17 from each vendor's own pages.
| Tool | Billed per | Unused credits | Entry price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clay | Actions plus data credits | Actions expire; data credits roll over (up to 2x monthly on Launch and Growth) | $167/mo annual, $185 monthly |
| FoxKnock | One credit meter; failed lookups are free | Roll over every month | Free, then $49/mo |
| Origami | Credits (email 3, phone 15) | Not stated | $99/mo |
| Unify | Credits per seat | Reset each cycle; top-ups carry 12 months | Free, then $20 per seat |
| Amplemarket | Contacts and credits per user per year | Not stated | $600/mo, annual term |
| Databar | Credits | Roll over for 1 month (monthly plans) | $99/mo |
| Floqer | Credits | Roll over while subscribed | From $49/mo |
| Instantly | Emails plus a separate credits plan | Credits expire in 2 months (monthly) or 1 year (annual) | $47/mo sending, credits from $9 |
| Apollo | Pooled credits per seat | Do not roll over | Free, then $49 per seat (annual) |
| Lusha | Credits (email 1, phone 5) | Monthly Pro and Premium roll over to 2x; annual credits are a year-long pool | Free, then $49.90/mo |
Clay describes rollover on two pages, so read both. Its FAQ says actions reset each billing cycle and do not roll over, and that on Launch and Growth unused data credits can build up to twice your monthly amount. Its plan table lists data-credit rollover on Launch and Growth as up to one month's credits on monthly billing and 15% of annual credits on annual billing. For Enterprise, the FAQ says up to 15% of the prior year's purchased credits can roll over if you renew at an equal or higher commitment. Confirm the rule for your plan with Clay. For the mechanics of both meters, read Clay credits explained.
Cost per finished result matters more than the entry price. Run the same small batch of your own records through two tools and compare what you paid for the contacts actually found. See FoxKnock pricing for its credit table.
Before you switch from Clay
- Export your tables first. Keep a CSV of every table and a note of each workflow. FoxKnock imports a CSV of contacts (up to 5,000 rows) but not Clay tables, formulas or Claygent prompts, so plan to rebuild workflows rather than migrate them.
- Check what a failed lookup costs. Clay says an enrichment that returns no data uses no data credits or actions. Databar charges only for successful requests, Origami says contact info is free if not found, and FoxKnock charges for email finds, phone finds, enrichment and research only on success. Ask the same of any other tool.
- Check your own data keys. Clay lets you bring your own provider keys, which skips data credits (each run still uses an action). FoxKnock also accepts your own keys for its supported providers, but credits are charged the same either way. It does not call Apollo's API and uses no scraped LinkedIn data, so an Apollo key will not plug in.
- Read the term. Amplemarket Startup is an annual term, Apollo's listed per-seat prices need annual billing and Unify Business is billed annually. Origami, Databar, Floqer and FoxKnock all offer monthly billing.
- Carry your compliance data. Bring your suppression list and any country or lawful-basis fields. Sending rules stay your responsibility with any of these tools. This is not legal advice.

Frequently asked questions
What is a cheaper alternative to Clay?
It depends on the job, because the cheapest tool differs for each. For sending only, Instantly Outreach starts at $47 a month. For tables, Floqer starts at $49 a month and Databar at $99. For contact data, Apollo and Lusha have free plans. FoxKnock starts free with 500 one-time credits, then $49 a month. Units differ between tools, so compare cost per finished result, not the entry price. Prices as of Oct 2026.
Do Clay credits roll over?
Partly. Per Clay's FAQ, actions reset each billing cycle and do not roll over. Data credits do: on Launch and Growth, unused credits can build up to 2x your monthly amount. Clay's plan table words it as up to one month's credits on monthly billing and 15% of annual credits on annual billing, and Enterprise customers can roll over up to 15% of the prior year's purchased credits if they renew at an equal or higher commitment. Confirm your plan's rule with Clay. More in Clay credits explained.
Are there free alternatives to Clay?
Yes, but they are free starts, not free replacements. Clay's own Free plan gives 500 actions and 100 data credits a month, with tables capped at 200 rows and email campaigns listed from Launch. Apollo's Free plan has no time limit, Lusha gives 40 credits a month, Unify has a free plan for up to 3 seats, Floqer includes 100 credits, and FoxKnock gives 500 one-time credits with no card. Free tiers are for testing, not for running outbound.
Which Clay alternative suits a small team without a GTM engineer?
Start with the tools that finish the loop for you: FoxKnock, Origami, Unify or Amplemarket, which differ mainly on price, data and how much they ask you to approve. If you want to keep a table but pay less, Databar and Floqer still expect someone to build and maintain workflows. If you only need contact data, Lusha or Apollo are simpler. The guide above walks through each case.
Is FoxKnock a full replacement for Clay?
No. FoxKnock runs a fixed loop: playbook, lookalike companies, cited research, contacts, drafts you approve and sorted replies. It has no table builder, no database of its own, no Salesforce or warehouse sync and no mailbox warm-up. If you need custom workflows or the widest data coverage, Clay is the stronger tool. The head-to-head lists where each one is ahead.
What are tools like Clay?
The closest in shape are Databar and Floqer: a table with waterfall enrichment and AI research. Origami and Unify work from plain-English prompts instead of a grid. Apollo and Lusha are contact-data providers with lighter workflow features, and Instantly is a sending platform with its own lead search. None is a one-for-one clone, so test with a small batch of your own records before you move.
